You are entitled to have a lawyer represent you on any offense or charge. In the event you are unable to afford a lawyer (Misdemeanor "A" or Felony only) , the Court will appoint one for you at no expense to you in the first instance; however, you may be required to pay for the lawyer at a later date. If you are interested in requesting a court-appointed lawyer, please contact the Court officer.
Your Plea:
GUILTY:
This means that you admit you have committed the offense. The Judge will enter a finding of guilt, and
your fine and sentence will be imposed.
NOLO CONTENDERE:
This means you are not admitting that you committed the offense, but you are not denying it. A finding of guilt will be entered, and your fine and sentence will be opposed. Your plea of nolo may not be used against you in any civil action in this State.
NOT GUILTY:
You are denying that you committed the alleged offense, and a trial will be scheduled. If you are unsure of a plea and need time to speak with an lawyer, you may enter a plea of not guilty which will give you more time.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE COURTROOM:

When the Judge addresses you, you MUST stand. You are not permitted beyond the railing in the Court Room unless your name is called.
At the time your name is called, come forward and stand at the podium. The charge/charges against you will be read and you will be asked which of the above pleas you wish to enter. The Judge will then discuss your rights with you.
